Umzug

Sewing Machine Meme
I am a big fan of Sew Mama Sew, the shop and the blog. A lot of my fabric has been bought there.
The Blog has a lot of inspiration and you can find good tutorials over there.
So this month it is "Sewing Machine Month" over there and I thought this time I can participate in a meme. Here it goes:
What brand and model do you have?
I have a Pfaff 90
How long have you had it?
I think I got it in the early 90th.
How much does that machine cost (approximately)?
You can find it on ebay in Germany around 120€. And it is said you shouldn't pay much more.
What types of things do you sew (i.e. quilting, clothing, handbags, home dec projects, etc.)?
I think all of that, but not so much of a cloth sewer.
How much do you sew? How much wear and tear does the machine get?
Oh when I am in the mood I can sew for days until a project is finished. Then are there times when I don't use it for weeks.
Do you like/love/hate your machine? Are you ambivalent? Passionate? Does she have a name?
Generally I like it, it works mostly fine and it is pretty sturdy because the body is full metall. When it was broken last year the shop told me that it is totally worth keeping and repairing it because of its sturdiness and quality as a work horse. I hate it when my possebilities are limited because it can only do straight and zickzack stitches. Although it came with a lot of feet which I hardly use them. But I got a new zipper and a free motion foot for it.
What features does your machine have that work well for you?
When the machine and I agree about the right tension it makes pretty nice straight stitches. I like that it has power and mostly doesn't flinch when I try to sew quilt layers or other heavy stuff.
Is there anything that drives you nuts about your machine?
On some days we could not agree which tension would work well and the tension differs in one seem, just because. TO find the reason and correct it can take some time. Last time I changed the thread colour! and all was fine. Also sometimes, when quilting I could use more space. And I really miss a feature to sew elastic fabrics.
Do you have a great story to share about your machine (i.e., Found it under the Christmas tree? Dropped it on the kitchen floor? Sewed your fingernail to your zipper?, Got it from your Great Grandma?, etc.!)? We want to hear it!
I had a Godmother who also was my Greataunt. I didn't have a strong relationship with her (Althoug I saw her nearly twice a year and got letters from her) when I was a child because she was pretty old and severe. But in my early 20th I tried to connect more with her and visited her on my own. We got along pretty well. On every visit she forced me to take some of her stuff with me, because she expected to die some day and was never married. So I took some stuff. What really touched and still touches my heart are the kitchen towels she made for a marriage which never come an so all of the linen towels have been unused)
After she died I was in her appartement with my mum and my aunt who cleaned it out. And I was pretty sure, that I wanted to have the sewing machine, althoug I didn't sew. And so I got it. I didn't use it for some time, than I made some Teddybears, than it stayed home when I left my parents house for university and when I moved in with my husband in 2001 I took it with me in our appartement, but only tried my hands on it again (despite shorteing some curtains) after our daughter was born in 2003 to make her some pants, which, in fact, never have been finished.
After a visit in the US in 2006 I had the idea that Quiltmaking could be nice. (why did they have to put all the Quilting Books besides the knitting books in the stores?). And finally in 2007 I started to use the machine continuous when I am not in the mood for knitting or want to make somethin what I don't want to have in knitted fabric.
Would you recommend the machine to others? Why?
Yes I would recommend it because it is hard to break can be easily fixed by a good service and it like said pretty sturdy.
What factors do you think are important to consider when looking for a new machine?
Oh I have nothing special in mind except that the machine and its handling should fit to the sewer. There is a good article in a german sewing board which gives a lot of good advices what to think about when buying a new machinge which I would consult when buying a new one.

I recently bought myself a used serger so I can do some stuff for my kids more neatly. So that dream is fullfilled. Besides that I would love a more comfortable machine from time to time with some fancy stuff and some usefull stuff i.e. buttonhole programm, decorative stitches etc.

Weil ich noch nicht so genau weiß wohin die Reise geht und weil ich es mir verdient habe, verbringe ich einige Zeit mit Nähen.
Neben dem Quilt den mein Bruder für sein Baby bekommen soll, habe ich der Tochter ein Top/Kleid genäht:
Das ist Gracie von Portabellopixies aus Stoffen, die alle im Stash waren und fast (ausschließlich) von der gleichen Designerin (Sandi Henderson) stammen.
Und dann noch ein Projekt was ich schon immer mal machen wollte und was mich so einige Nerven gekostet hat.
Das ist der Sophia Carry-All Bag von Amy Butler i Stoffen von Anna-Maria Horner.
Die Tasche ist noch nicht ganz fertig und muß auch nochmal gebügelt werden.

Das Loch
Vielleicht kennt ihr das ja, wenn man eine Prüfung oder ein anderes großes Ereignis hinter sich gebracht hat, bleibt anschließend irgendwie ein Loch. In eben diesem habe ich ich mich letzten Wochen aufgehalten und krabbel so langsam wieder nach draußen. Hinzu kommt, daß der liebe Gatte beruflich so eingespannt ist, daß die Familienorganisation mal wieder an mir hängt, zusätzlich zu der Sortierung meiner Zukunft.
Lange Rede kurzer Sinn, ich wollte mich eigentlich vorrangig für die vielen, vielen Glückwünsche bedanken!
Damit das hier nicht ganz bilderlos bleibt, zeige ich euch mal, was ich nebenbei auch noch gemacht habe.
Das wird ein Babyquilt für die Tochter meines Bruders, die im Juni ihre Ankunft angekündigt hat.
Und weil ich ja sonst nichts zu tun habe, durfte ich für eine Aufführung im Kindergarten der Tochter ein Kostüm nähen, die Bilder gibt es bei ihr im Blog.

mein Geburtstag war gestern und ich danke den Gratulanten.
Ich mußte gestern wie die Wochen zuvor lernen, daher auch die Abwesenheit in diesem Blog.
Aber nun kann ich vermelden, daß ich die Prüfung bestanden habe und mich Volljuristin nennen darf.

Nachtrag - 4-1=3
Ein wenig verspätet das Foto zum Geburtstag unseres wundervollen Sohnes. Kaum zu glauben, daß er schon drei geworden ist. Auch wenn er es nicht gerne hört, so ist er doch irgendwie immer noch mein Baby.
Der aufmerksame Leser wird feststellen, daß die Krone mit einer zwei beschriftet ist. Dies liegt daran, daß es die Kronen im Kindergarten gibt und er zum Zeitpunkt des Frühstücks noch keine neue mit dem aktuellen Alter bekommen hatte, seine Schwester aber meinte, daß es ohne Krone kein Geburtstagsfrühstück gibt.

Ich hatte nur im Kopf noch sechs Tage bis zum Termin und fünf Tage alleine mit der Großen den Tag meistern, das schaffe ich nicht.
03.04.06 23.24 Uhr
Grad angekommen im Krankenhaus und großartig begleitet von Kristina vom Bonner Hebammenladen.
Und dazwischen ab dem späten Morgen des 03.04.06 ganz wunderbare Wehengesellschaft per IM von Ihr.

Chaos
Wenn der Papa meint, die Kinder seien alt genug für "richtiges" Lego und keine Lust auf das altersgemäße Duplo hat, dann kann das schonmal sein, daß das Kinderzimmer so aussieht. Vorallem wenn der Herr Papa das Lego rausstellt und dann keine Zeit mehr hat und auch das Aufräumen verschiebt.
Ich poste dieses Bild aber nicht als Anklage, sondern eher als Ausdruck der momentanen familiären Situation. Alle erwachsenen Mitglieder extrem unter (beruflichem) Druck, alle Kinder wechselweise krank. Dies führt dann zu einer eher chaotischen Gesamtsituation. Aber keine Sorge, es ist Licht am Ende des Tunnels und alles wird GUT.

Der Kindsvater stellte heute morgen fest, es handele sich ja um Ritter Rost und die Hexe Verstexe, dies wurde von den Gören aber vehement bestritten.
